Well i can tell you that if you speak the way you write we'll just despise you.

To answer your question : just don't act as if everybody MUST speak english and before speaking ask the person "do you speak english ?"

If you speak slang yes we mind because lots of people don"t speak english so if you don't try to speak french ,  try to be clear and speak slowly at least.

well i am not french but will answer the question.

the frenchies are really rude people always looking down their noses.sorry..!all of them are not like that.

if u ask one polietly whether he or she speaks english he or she will polietly reply in engligh that he/she doesnt at the same time conveying that actually she/he does but doesn thave any wish to do it for you.

they also regard all tourists with sarcasm and scorn and will not help u  getting any info about train time,place location etc.

check out- even their hotels are dirty no matter how expensive

I think you should at least give the effort to learn a few, simple French phrases.

And if you're going to come up to us on the street, at least ask first

"Parlez-vous anglais?" (pronounced par-lay vooz anglay?)

And then, continue in English- and if you can't speak English properly, then don't bother at all.

I get upset when tourists don't even try. It is easy just to learn how to say the basic phrases:

- hello : "bonjour"

- thank you : 'merci'

- please: "s'il vous plaît"

- Do you speak English? : 'Est ce que vous parlez anglais?'

Then I have no problem talking in English.
