  1. There are some facets of the American culture that do not tip at all no matter how great the service is.  Generally this can be found in lower-socio-economic-status neighborhoods.

  2. I'm in Australia, and it's not the norm to tip.

But I do tip for good service and a friendly smile.

Fuel here is over $1.50 per litre/ roughly $6 per gallon, but delivery drivers finding it difficult would just get another job.

  3. I'm an Australian.  We don't tip as a general rule.  Tipping is very very optional.  Delivery people generally not tipped.

Personally I find it disgusting that you are working on $5.15 per hour and then have to "beg" for more money just to survive.  (I don't find you disgusting, but the company who so underpays you)

I was being paid that as a teenager like 15 years ago.  A $15 check out chick, mop jockey or such are starting on like $7 per hour for a part time job...

  4. They are cheap.  They are rude.  They don't care.

Personally, I always over tip to compensate for the dumb@$$ ones.  Like if the total is $20, I give them $25 and tell them to keep the change.  I always tip 20%, more if the weather is crappy like a snow storm or pouring down rain or freezing cold.

  5. My parents owned restaurants so I always knew to tip. . People who tip when they go out to dinner are going to tip you when you deliver. Experienced waitresses told me a lot of people don't know about tipping. They are just ignorant. If you are delivering to kids or teenagers then they don't know and don't have the extra $2-$5 to tip you. If they are adults then they are just ignorant or like Ebenezer Scrooge.

  6. Ok first off, you get paid for your job PLUS tips don't you?

Second of all, most people don't tip because the people either don't have enough money or their driver is acting like a little b*tch.

  7. grow up and get a real job thats just life i worked for 2.oo a hour plus tips and it wasnt fair either ,,,,

  8. A tip is simply that a "tip." It's not required. I guess I should say that I normally tip very well, unless I get poor service or if I am charged a delivery charge by the company. If the company charges a delivery fee, I don't feel obligated to tip. I trust the employer is taking good care of their employees.

Just a few tips you should be aware of. You can deduct all your expenses off your income taxes, if you keep proper records such as: Gas receipts, track your mileage, record your actual tips, etc... You will be surprised how much it all adds up to.

You should also be aware that the laws in different states vary widely. I live in California, here they pay waitresses minimum wage (which is why meals cost so much). In Michigan, where I'm from waitresses make about $3.00 per hour, their wages don't increase when minimum wage goes up. Waitresses in Michigan count on their tips, just to survive.

If you aren't making enough, perhaps you should consider getting a better job. If your employer can't hire people to deliver in your area, perhaps they will change their pay structure.

I hope you find this helpful.

  9. I TIP WHEN THINGS GET DELIVERED, BUT  IS IT NOT FOR THE COMPANY TO GIVE YOU MONEY FOR GAS, ITS YOUR CAR, OR ASK THEM TO PROVIDE ONE WITH THE COMPANY, PEOPLE DONT TIP CAUSE THEY MIGHT FORGET, OR JUST DONT WANT TO, ITS THEIR CHOISE, I NOW ITS HARD OUT THERE, BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO,

  10. While many people are cheap, some people don't realize that delivery drivers use their own cars and don't get payed for the gas.

I've always tipped them, but I haven't always known that.

There really isn't a difference between waiters and drivers, but some people have that mindset that they both already get tips.

  11. tip.dotn do if.

  12. i'll tip for good service and nothing else.

last time someone delivered, he couldn't take my debit card even though they said no problem when I ordered.  then he wanted my to write my own receipt and put my debit card number on it.  i might as well put my social security number on there while I'm at it.  no way he's getting a tip.  i wanted to rip his eyes out.  then I find out a week later they took a tip without asking when it shows up on my statement.  of course I have it reversed.

I should tip for delivery like this?  who tips when they're told to write their own receipt?

  13. Unfortunately people are cheap.  My ex-girlfriend worked at Outback for three years and use to discuss how even people who received excellent service would not tip.  I always tip people who deliver to my house, unless they are blatantly rude to me which is rare.  I usually give any delivery person at least five dollars and usually tip 25% in restaraunts.  As you well know im sure, most Americans are greedy and money hungry.  They do not enjoy giving their money away, even if a good tip is well deserved.
