It depends on what city. If you go to New York City there are several great museums there is Madison Square Garden where you can see hockey or basketball, and in either the Bronx or Queens (take the subway) you can see a baseball game I live near a bunch of malls, so I don't really feel a need to go there unless it is for something special.

I personally love museums, you can see all kinds of things and learn new stuff too.

I feel that when you are traveling, you should experience what that place has to offer.  What makes it unique as to why you chose to go there in the first place?  So for that reason I like to visit museums, cultural attractions, local restaurants and bars, art galleries, etc.  Most every mall you go into is going to have the same stores with the same stuff as the place you just traveled from so why spend more time there?  Most every city has something that is very unique to that particular place so do a little research first and then plan your visit accordingly.  And like someone else said, it there are festivals, etc. going on, that is great way to experience the area you're visiting too!

I've gone to different cities for all of the above reasons. I particularly like local festivals and frequently travel for that reason. There's a spectacular event in Marostica, Italy coming up and I have reservations for Octoberfest in Munich. Earlier this year, I was in both Venice and Cento for Carnevale and expect to go to Perugia for the Eurochocolate festival and San Miniato for the Truffle festival. In the past, I've been to events as varied as the Salmon festival in Issaquah (US), Dragon Boat races in Leiden (Netherlands), 4th of July in Washington, D'Antan Festival in EZE (France), christmas markets in Bolzano and Trento (Italy), Prague, Copenhagen, Vienna, and Brussels. Soccer (Italy, UK, US) and other sports. ... Travel is a great experience.
