  1. Yes

My state has 6 AC's BUT way north and way south the codes are the same and it is LD

  2. In cities like Boston, there is an area code that 'wraps' around the whole city. (781) some calls are local, others have substantial charges. They are not necessarily long distance charges, but toll charges that apply. But I would rather pay that way than a monthly in State unlimited flat rate.!! (Too d**n high. We are being nickel and dimed by the phone companies.) My taxes on my bill are well over 10% of the bill. Many long distance carriers charge a monthly fee, whether you use long distance or NOT!! I cancelled my long distance, saving over $4.50 a month. I use an AT & T calling card for long distance, at around 2 to 3 cents a minute. (You will still get INCOMING long distance for free.)

  3. Probably. Most of my state has the same area code but I can only call people in the same city I am in without it being long distance.

  4. There are some basic types of calling rates: Local (Local Exchange Service or LES, usually about 12 miles from where you are calling), Local Toll / Regional Toll (intra-LATA) , Expanded Local Exchange (kind of a combo of local and toll), Long Distance Toll (interLATA), and international.

Area codes don't really have anything to do with what you are charged. For example, the person who lives across the street from you might be in a different area code. It depends if you are calling outside of your local exchange (LATA). If you are calling in state, the call would most likely be a toll call, not a long distance call.  LATAs are more of a distance/boundary thing.

Some phone companies have unlimited calling. For example, Verizon has unlimited (flat-rate) calling anywhere in the USA and Canada for $49.99 a month; and if you want caller ID, call waiting, and voice mail, it is only $5.00 more ($54.99); even further and bundle it with High Speed Internet (3.0 Mbps) for only $74.99 for both; and even better, bundles with DirecTV, its only $99.99 for all three. Other phone companies have similar plans.
