i have a black phantom tetra (tropical fish) with fin rot and it is in another tank, i think the fin rot has cured, so i am thinking about putting it back into my community tank. if i do this will the water in my other tank were the fish came out of have fin rot in the water?

i have just started breeding guppies and i need another tank to use.

is the water safe in my fish tank or will i need to do a full water change before i can add fish ?

  1. The water in your fish tank will not have fin rot in it if it cured your tetra. I would just clean out 25-50% of the water so that your fish are nice and clean. Remember to leave the water sitting overnight before you put the guppies in.

Bacteria could be spreading in you tank though, so if you want to clean out the entire tank, then I say go for it.

Good luck! Please email if you have more questions.

  2. fin rot is caused by poor water conditions

keep up with water changes and your fish will be fine

no, the other tank will be fine, as long as you didn't use any meds

if you did, you might have crashed it

so just make sure you have the same water parameters as you have in the good one

  3. just use methalyene blue!!!

it kills bacteria and stops the spreading!!!!

you could also use a bit of salt (salt dehydrates the bacteria)

or if it's really bad, use milk!!!! (the lactose in milk kills bacteria by latching on to it like a plunger in a toilet rendering it immobile and then it dies!!! just scoop up the hardened tiny milk particles!!!)

don't waste the milk just use around 5-6 table spoons!
