  1. Yes and No. You have two options (1) It depends on you as a person whether or not you decide to have another passport. (2) You can keep your old passport and present your marriage certificate together with your passport for verification purposes.

If you decide to go with option one, you'll have to change all your details as well e.g NI No,Bank details etc.

  2. Yes you do.

  3. yes, but if you can get the new one back pretty swiftly if you get everything verified at a main post office

  4. yep or you got wrong name on old passport

  5. Yep, you'll need a new one if your name changes on other documents.

  6. YES YES YES!

  7. You need to get a new passport pack from the post office. There is a bit on the form to fill in with your new details. You need to send your current passport off and they will send back a new/ amended one. Not sure how much it costs.

  8. yup, just keep using your maiden name on passport until it's up for renewal, then you can decide if you want to change.

Only proviso is to make sure that your bank cards use the same name, as your passport is required for identification in Spain when paying by credit or debit card. (you can use your driving licence as ID if it is the plastic one with photo)

  9. From the Identity and Passport Services website (IPS):

I want to apply to amend my passport (change my name)...

If you have recently changed your name, or if you plan to do so in the near future, you will have to change the name on your passport if you want to travel abroad.

This means your current passport will be cancelled and a new standard 10-year passport issued. We will credit your new passport with extra time (up to nine months) towards the unexpired time left on your old passport.

  10. No

Just tippex it out and write your new name over the top.

    Perfectly acceptable.

  11. yes and no.    if you just go t married then take your marriage certificate with your passport to show that you are married but have maiden name on passport. but it would be easy just to get a new one if you plan on leaving the country more than often

  12. I never changed my name entirely, so if it hadn't run out the year after I got married, I would not have had to get a new one to travel.

If you keep your maiden name in some way, hyphenate, or, as I did just, make it your middle name, it isn't as official, and you can keep most of your papers as long as you want.  My phone bill was still in my maiden name for 10 years after the wedding.

Check with the passport agency for official information.
