  1. No. The 40GB can't play PS2 games, even if you replace it with a bigger hard drive. PS2 compatibility relies on the motherboard, not the HDD.

  2. No.  It's not the harddrive that determines whether or not you can play PS2 games.  If it's the hard drive, Sony could just let people download the emulator to play PS2 games, but it doesn't happen because it's the hardware that determines whether or not you can play PS2 games.  The 40 gb is cheaper than the 80 gb because Sony took away the hardware to play PS2 games.

  3. No, you cant. Just because you replace the 40gb hardrive dosent mean it will have backwards compatibility. The location of where the 40gb PS3 cant play PS2 games is in the emotion engine. The inner core of the PS3. So no, even adding a larger hardrive wont create compatibility with PS2 games.

    Hope I helped!

  4. No Because 40GB model cant play PS2 games,

it doesn't matter how many GBs you have,

Only 20,60, and 80gbs can play PS2 games,HDD doesnt matter

20,60 and 80(soon) have been discontinued,

In september a new 80gb will come out and it wont play ps2 games!

  5. yes u can
