It depends on many factors. If you are employed, it must be near your job. If you are retired (or otherwise don't need a job), it depends on your wealth, nearness (or far-ness, in some cases), of family, your wants and desires.

My boyfriend and I have started looking at houses in the NoVA, MD, and PA area. We currently both live with our parents in Columbia, MD. We work in Rockville, which is close to DC, but our work also has an office in Frederick, which is in Northern MD. I would prefer to live in Frederick or PA because the houses are a lot cheaper up there, so we can get a really nice house for a fraction of what we would pay in Columbia or NoVA.
