  1. No...its against the Hippa law that came into affect as of 1993 (I believe thats the right year) you need a notarized letter from the parent.

  2. If its an emergency yes

  3. A child can admit themselves into the hospital emergency room if need be. Any person can sign the admittance forms for the emergency room and it is perfectly legal.

  4. In the event of an emergency, a minor of any age can be cared for without parental knowledge/consent...it is assumed that the parent would want immediate and appropriate care for their child.

Outside of an emergency, a child at that age can obtain SOME medical services without parental knowledge/consent.  I would call the hospital, alert them as to what happened and find out what their policies are.

    What harm was done?

  5. Nope

  6. No, not unless she is taking care of a pregnancy issue. In many states, your 17 year old can do anything reproductive related without your knowledge or consent.

The only other alternative is if she was admitted by law enforcement.

Was she someplace that you signed a medical form for? School activity? Church? They would also have power, from an old form you signed eons ago most likely.

If her hospitalization has nothing to do with reproductive issues, you can remove her immediately, the police will help you if she is not physically ill. You also cannot be charged for the hospital bill if you refuse to sign anything. They will try, but you don't have to pay if you didn't sign.

I wish you luck. I hope all goes well, this sounds like a messed up situation.

  7. In emergencies they can wait for the guardian also they don't ask for proof. How just walks around with proof of being a parent.  She is there for a reason i would not be to upset if i were you

  8. If it is a "medically emergency".. yes.  And that term is used loosely!!  Also, if there is a question of a mental health issue like the 17 year old is depressed and could harm herself.. then somone could have her "pink slipped" into a hospital or mental health center.  That would involve contacting the police.  It can get very messy!
