  1. In NZ, you can prescribe repeats of medications and simple medications only (antibiotics and stuff) for yourself and your family. But narcotics and benzo's and stuff need a specialist's signature.

  2. No

  3. Physicians not only have the the best healthcare in the world, but we are immune to ALL disease that the rest of the population is predisposed to ;)

  4. No!

  5. nope

  6. no you are not allowed.

  7. If laws are to be followed to the letter, only licensed doctors are supposed to prescribe medicines thus if you are a licensed medical doctor, then you are supposed to be allowed to prescribe your own medicines even if it is a controlled medicine. There are also over the counter medicines. As the name implies, they can be bought without prescriptions.

  8. We most certainly can (in the US).

If we prescribe controlled substances for ourselves or family, red flags go up and we risk losing both medical license and DEA registration (which = prescribing privileges)

If we, or family members, need something that is not a drug that is likely to be abused, we can write prescriptions for it.  No big deal.

Chronic medical problems are best managed by someone other than oneself, though.  Most physicians I know who have something that needs long term treatment (hypertension, diabetes, etc.) have a physician that they see for it.

  9. If I want a non-scheduled but prescription-only drug, I can get it. That would include something like an antibiotic, for instance. On the other hand, I couldn't go and pick up a bucket of morphine for personal use.

We don't do much of that, because a significant problem need the disinterested opinion of a professional. One can't be unbiased about himself. And we may indeed get the best health care in the world, but not from this. More medicine doesn't translate into better medicine, and I use a lot fewer drugs than the average guy.

  10. No nor can they prescribe medication for their immediate family members

  11. no sorry they cannot

  12. no they cant

  13. no you cant

  14. Yes! Despite all the "NO"s we actually can. As long as this is not a controlled substance; we should really get everything checked out by another doctor however if we need some paracetemol it isn't an offence to self-prescribe.

  15. I don't think that they can

  16. no, it is unethical, and I believe, against the law.

  17. No or they'd all be on morphene

  18. To be honest? It depends on what the prescription is and the license level needed. Free samples are given by pharmaceutical companies and sometimes.....

  19. No they have to get someone else to do it, its illegal to prescribe your own medication.

  20. well they can say what they might have and suggest the best medication for it but they have to check with another doctor to double check it then they would only consider it
