Question:

If using corn to produce bio-fuel causes food prices to rise, should we consider other alternatives?

In the last 6 months, the prices for foods and oils which contain any corn or corn derivative have started to climb. Renewable alternatives to fossil fuels are important, but is it still worth while to use corn (and other vegetables) if it starts to increase the cost of our food?

  1. they are right. those d**n corn fuels is not doing any good. it is just making global warming worst and causing food prices up. other alternatives must be considered. most biofuels are all carbon emitters (but sugar cane based can cut emissions) so biofuels is not a good alternative at all. biofuels from food must be stopped to become oil because it causes so many distractions in the environment. it makes everything worse! ! !

in short, the best way right now is to save energy and to consume it properly. there are many disadvantages of alternatives to oil so saving is the best thing to do right now.

biofuels as eco friendly is just a scam

see some articles on how those kind of biofuels make things worse.

  2. I think that using corn is a start in the right direction in using alternative fuel sources.. I think if we branch out and try to find as many alternative sources as possible that would be the absolute BEST !  I'm hoping that someone will invent a bio fuel like dog p**p to run homes/cars etc.... I seems to always be cleaning that up in the yard.... !

Besides the cost of food is being driven up by the price of regular gas as well... Transporting/shipping of food across borders, air/sea.... Not just in the making of bio-fuel...

    Good luck

  3. corn is very inefficient anyways.

it takes almost 1 gallon of gasoline to produce 1 gallon of ethanol. Brazil and their ethanol from sugar cane is 5-6 times more energy efficient than ethanol from corn.

I really think we need to think of an alternative to corn.

In the last year, worlds food prices have skyrocketed double digests.

Food prices in China due to inflation and exporting have gone up 50% in some places.

  4. Perhaps

    we should be totally rethinking

    our addiction to fuel itself

    maybe

we should be looking at alternatives

to our highly consumptive behaviour patterns

perhaps we could be happier with less

    if we all

    scaled back our wants

we would save a lot more fuel

    and would

not need to transform corn into biofuel

    because

    i believe

that it is much more important for people to eat

    then for rich people

    to buy

    another pair of designer shoes

  5. When the car hit the market in the early 1900's it was electric. In fact it was a 90-10 for electric to gas. And we got 25-30 miles per gallon then as well. Now the average is 20 miles to the gallon. So in reality we are digressing in the auto industry.

  6. Any plan to use a food crop to produce fuel should be scrapped. How many people have to starve before we admit it was a stupid idea that was a knee jerk solution to a make believe problem?
