Question:

If want to start a new job and really interested it it .Then told to do an unpaid induction.Is it fair?

We attended the induction and we receive training for more the the promised 3hours and this happens every wednsday of each week , God knows how many desperate jobseekers were exploited .The company works on bHalf of the well known county council in Uk.

  1. In the US if you show up to work then you deserve to be paid.  I'm not sure what an unpaid induction is but if it is like a working interview, then you are required to be paid something for your time.


  2. Depends how long the induction is for.

    Personally I would not want to work for a firm who expected me to do that for nothing, because it would suggest they would not be a good employer in other ways.

  3. It doesn't seem overly fair but clearly someone thinks that they can get away with it.  For me I would take it as an early warning sign about the company.  Pay rise will be unlikely, conditions might not be that great.  It would be ok if it was a small company, but if its a major name then I would say it may not be worth going into a culture like that.
