If water makes plants grow, howcome I never see plants growing out of a toilet?

Plants don't need water, they need electrolytes. Everyone knows it's what plants crave.

plants need not only water but also some essential minerals, nutrients and soil.more over physiological processes like absorption of water, a water potential gradient is necessary. so the plants can not grow in a toilet.how ever if the toilet is kept uncleaned for a long time, algae and fungi would grow there.

Algae live perfectly fine in water, and sometimes, in low sunlight.  I think your right...it must be the electrolytes!

You can grow plants in the toilet as long as you do the following:

1. Don't flush

2. Provide support for the plant (screen material works great)

3. Use liquid fertiliser

4. Provide the right light spectrum

You can set up hydroponics in a number of different places.  So why not try it in your toilet?

it is really true that water makes plants grow; just like people, we cannot live without water. if you ask why plants cant grow in toilets - well, i want to let you know that not only in water where plants and human would live. like people, we cannot live not only in water. we need food and shelter. like plants, they need some other matters to make them live, like sunlight and land. that's why you can't see them in toilets.

Let's approach this logically. Most plants are watered by rain, right? The next time it rains, go outside and taste the rain. Then taste the water in your toilet. It they taste similar, you might have a chance.

Here's a little trick I learned from the Native Americans: when the pilgrims first stole this land, they observed that the god-less savages would plant fish heads with their corn. Science has shown that fish heads are rich in Nitrogen, which makes excellent fertalizer. Try putting some corn kernels and a few fish heads in your toilet and see what happens in a few weeks.

If God loves you, then you'll soon have a fresh garden of delicious treats to enjoy at your convience!

Becuase the water HELPS the plant grow, not creates them. You'd need a plant before you add the water.

they need soil too, though if y ou don't flush the toilet for a long time, you'll get not just flora you'll get some fauna - creepy crawlies too growing in it!!

Because it doesn't have the proper nutrients other than water to help plants grow.  And, people put cleaning chemicals in toilets, which is generally not good for life in there.
