Why is every parking lot in every shopping center jam packed with people? Is it the stimulus check at work? I think not.

  1. amen

  2. Even in a recession the rich keep getting richer

and the poor just get poorer.

  3. more then likely yes..people this time of year have some extra money to blow..but it is also the switch of the seasons so recession of not people are still out getting their summer wear and things for vacations and back yard bbq's..and alot of people like to window shop...cheap form of entertainment.

  4. I think 24 hour news coverage by networks like CNN and Fox news really hype up the possibilities of recession. For example... I live in Canada, and we have been paying over 4 dollars a gallon for gas for a few years now. Up until recently our dollar was much lower than yours, but we still did well financially. I think if you can really scale back operations in Iraq soon, you will have an easier time. The money you guys are kicking out for that war is tremendous. I'm not a big supporter of just pulling out suddenly from over there, because I wouldnt want you guys to lose what has been gained over there. Maybe soon, the majority of troops could be pulled out of the danger zone and stationed at a remote base , a few hundred miles from the danger. Let the Iraqi army handle the everyday problems from now on. The USA could just provide Air support from the base and some heavily armoured ground troops once and awhile to quash uprisings etc.. Anyway, I dont know what to think about all of these jobs going overseas. So far, I havent heard any convincing ideas as to how free trade is going to help the economies in Canada and the US. I have heard that one day, places like China will become big consumers, and then we will be able to compete in that market to provide them with goods that we can manufacture...because their standard of living will go up and therefore their labour rate will go up. Then we will be able to compete with our labour in manufacturing. But hey...how come the chinese labourer are still making peanuts? What happens if a group of chinese try to organize and form a union at their factory? (A) they get beaten up. (B) they lose their jobs (C) they get shot  (D) all of the above. Who is likely responsible for this repression against chinese labourers? The chinese govt.? or also maybe...just maybe ...greedy foreign investors from the USA, Canada, and Britain. We can still have our cake and eat it too...but for how long?

  5. Maybe, or maybe everyone feels the end of the world is  coming-so enjoy life !

  6. Our economic condition does not presently fit the accepted definition of recession.  We simply are not in one, just a slump.  Economies are cyclic.  We are on a down-swing at the moment.

  7. Good question. Restaurants are always packed and so are the malls. You cannot tell me they are all just browsing.  Each time we go out, which is not very often, my mother says "and they say there is no money out there".  Especially places like the Red Lobster whose prices have jumped sky high recently.  You see families of 8 and 10 in there.  Not being racist here but the one Red Lobster near us is always frequented by more blacks and whites.   No money, ha.

  8. I don't think it has anything to do with the stimulus checks.  The restaurant I work at has been busy for months and I also know that a lot of people don't have them yet.  I am the baker and we are selling bread and pastries like there is no tomorrow.  It's really strange.

  9. Let's not forget new house construction is up as well.  Everytime I go out I see people spending on frivolous things, not necessities.  I also see them shopping for food and buying gas...gasp!  I am in retail and our sales figures are above what they were last year.  This is just the media...once again stirring the pot.  I do not watch network news anymore, they are so full of c**p!
