Some people want to tell us a new century does not begin until the year 1 of that century. 1901, 2001, 1401. But the problem with that is the christian calendar, which is the calnder used in much of the world, marks time from or before Christ's birth. Meaning that 1BC was one year before the year of Christ's birth and 1AD was a year after. This effectively makes the year of Christ's birth year 0 in the first century AD and the last century BC. Thusly we count year 0 in each century as the start of the new century. So the year 100 marked the start of the second century while the year 2000 marked the start of the 21st century. The 22nd century begins 2100.
