If we are renting a house and the depression hits will we lose our house?

It has more to do with your landlord and whether or not he/she wants to sell the house. That is one of the down sides of renting vs buying a home. You are always pretty much at the landlord's mercy when it comes to that.

Maybe you should try asking your landlord if he/she plans on selling the home anytime soon. Also, if something happens where the landlord gets behind or doesn't pay the property taxes on the home, you would have to move out b/c the owner would lose the home themselves. Good luck.

What depression? Where do you live?  The US isn't in a depression.  We are in a recession.  A depression is just a recession that's lasted a year instead of 6 months.  So things shouldn't change.
