  1. No, it wouldn't. Even if everyone believed a particular notion, that's no evidence at all of it's truth or falsity. At one time every scientist in the world believed it was impossible for big rocks to fall from the sky, but their belief was in error.

  2. You have got to be kidding right?

Magicians, Politicians & Lawyers all make their money by fooling the consensus.

It's not like you shouldn't be concerned if everone believes it but you.....

BUT remember that HALF the population is below average intellegence.   It takes only a few average minds siding with the dumb guys to form a consensus.

You are much better off looking at the track record of WHO believes something.

E.g.   If 95% of the people believe Socialism is the path to prosperity, but the 5% that believe Capitalism is happen to BE the most prosperious, the consensus is probably wrong.

Success comes from copying the few that are successful, not the many who are not.

  3. no, there used to be many consensuses that have existed that were untrue, like believing in gods and that the world was flat. but generally speaking at least in the scientific community or scholarly community, there usually isn't consensus unless it is true, therefore lack of consensus is usually a good indication that the science isn't really a science yet, like psychology and economics.

  4. This is a great question!  What I do know to be true is that it is possible to consciously create reality because a conscensus has agreed on something.  Before 1776, there was a great deal of philosophic thought about the rights of man and the possibility of people living in democracies.  Since that time, the world has gone in that direction, regardless  of how flawed those democracies might be.  What we all know to be true is that ideas and information are very powerful things, and if the consciousness of enough people agree to do something, there's a pretty decent chance it just might happen.  Excuse me if I hedge my bet.  So, I would have to say that a consensus can make something true in the real world.  Thanks for asking this question!

  5. Very good question.  Does a consensus make something true?  I do not believe it does.  Here is why, There are differing claims on such questions as what constitutes truth; how to define and identify truth; the roles that revealed and acquired knowledge play; and whether truth is subjective, relative, objective, or absolute.  Having said this, there is also a "Pragmatic theory" of truth in which William James's  is often summarized by his statement that "the 'true' is only the expedient in our way of thinking, just as the 'right' is only the expedient in our way of behaving." By this, James meant that truth is a quality the value of which is confirmed by its effectiveness when applying concepts to actual practice (thus, "pragmatic").  If you use his theory than I believe IT is true.

  6. If you're religious it does.

  7. In Islam, that is the principle of "shura," and it is what has held Islam back for so long in developing along with the rest of the civilized world.

Fortunately, some forward looking nations like Dubai have abandoned shura and are more modern than most western nations.

  8. Make what true?

The consensus? Not really because someone is probably opposing the consenus but had to find a common ground just for the sake of it.

  9. If a million people agree to thing that is false,

    that thing still remains false.
