We can also make vegitable oil from algea in bio reactors which can run in converted deisel vehicles.

Its an interest of mine, but i'd like to see some real data regarding horsepower and abilities to pull loads before jumping on someone's bandwagon to support it.

Also, there would probably have to be some sort of a positive incentive for people to trade in a good and reliable gas burning vehicle for such a movement to the "green' side.

It al depends on how much you are willing to pay for it. All the coal mining companies are now owned by major oil companies so no change there. Bio fuels currently are robbing land from food crops and raising food prices to the same extent as oil. Does ADM belong to one of the oil corps?

Cheap electricity from nuclear or space based solar will hep answer some to most of these questions and it has to come first or all the conversation in the world will do no good.

We can, it's just a question of economics and of course where the energy and carbon feedstock to make it comes from (if it's all from coal then it's worse than digging oil out of the ground).

Synthetic oil is not really synthetic.  It is made from petroleum.  It is just highly refined petroleum.  The oil industry want you to believe that its some hi-tech formulation so you will pay 3 times as much for it.  But the reality is that there is no conclusive evidence that synthetic oil is better than conventional oil.

Regarding synthetic gasoline, any thing that burns (ie, combines with oxygen and releases energy) can be used as fuel.  We can make synthetic alcohol, but it take more petroleum  to turn corn into alcohol than we get from the finished product.

Bottom line:  We haven't found an energy source that is cheaper than petroleum.  When we do, people will stop using fossil fuels.

the technology to make synthetic gasoline has been around since the late 1930's when Germany liquefied coal to make gasoline to power their military machine. today the air force is setting up a coal liquefaction plant to produce fuel for our military vehicles. all we need do is build new refineries to liquefy coal and make gasoline and diesel.

Because the synthetic oil is still crude oil based only modified a lot

That is why it cost an arm and a leg for a quart of the stuff

And synthetic gasoline you'd have to have a line of credit on your home handy to do a fill up of the stuff

They best way would to create some while not trying to cause other problems, like trying to create syntheticic gasoline, they best way would be to use some ingredients they would not rise food costs which would reduce the already lowing economy thus creating inflation. Though this process might be done and seems right its just the ingredients that we worry about.
