  1. You would have to pay for all the things the government provides.  I am sure they would still exsist, they would just be managed a whole lot better.

Every road would be a toll road.  If a cop came to your assistance they would write you a bill.  I am just making this up as I go but it is how I imagine it.

  2. We'd have more take home income if we didn't have to pay taxes.  We would just have to live without things like roads, bridges, airports, police and fire protection, public schools, federal military, etc.

  3. If we had absolutely no taxes, we'd have no government.  As screwed up as the gov't is, we still need it.  Without it, we'd have chaos and would be at the mercy of the most powerful bully in town.

I personally would rather replace the income tax with the Fair Tax:  Check out The Fair Tax, by Neal Boortz and Congressman John Linder.  It proposes to replace the income tax with a sales tax.

The price of goods will not increase because it will eliminate embedded taxes.  The poor will not pay taxes.  You will not pay taxes on used cars, houses, or clothes.  Entitlements will not change.  Compliance costs of the current system cost $194 billion; they will drop to a tiny fraction of that.  April 15 will no longer be a dreaded day.  We will no longer fear the IRS.  What's not to love?

Of course, we'd still be paying taxes--the we wouldn't notice them so much.  The price of goods would be the same as they are now, but we'd get to keep our entire paycheck--income tax, FICA, medicare would NOT be taken out!!!

  4. We would still be living in caves.
