If we do enter another little ice age would you advocate pumping CO2 into the atmosphere?

Or would the reality of a little ice age be enough to convince you that CO2 does not drive climate change?

  1. As long as it doesnt get so cold that it kills the plants ,now that would bad. CO2 is just a step in the process of the plants recycle of CO2 into O2 but the plants keep the C. The C later breaks down into oil & gas....

  2. It wouldn't matter.  Co2 has nothing to do with the Earths temperature.

  3. this is funny...lol you get a star for this question

  4. That would depend entirely on why we suddenly entered a little ice age.  Climate changes like this don't happen magically, after all.

For example, if somehow we entered a little ice age because of a few weak solar cycles, I would not advocate increasing atmospheric CO2, because once solar output returned to higher levels, we would be right back to where we started.

Of course, that would take some seriously big decrease in solar output to offset the recent increase in CO2.

Either way, your second question denies the existence of the greenhouse effect.  A higher greenhouse gas concentration means a warmer planet, and vice-versa.  This is basic physics.

  5. We know from studies of planets like Venus and Mercury that CO2 does cause planetary warming, but pumping CO2 into the atmosphere would not save us it would poison us long before it heated the world up again. It would also cause massive acid rain falls, which would poison the soil and the water table, and kill us all.

A cheaper and safer solution would be to build orbital space mirrors to reflect increased solar heat on to the Earth.

  6. No, methane would be a better choice, the radiative window of CO2 has already been saturated, it would require way to much CO2 to make a difference. Methane however has a dwell time of about 300 years, so you better be sure if you do release it because it will make a difference.
