If we feed the starving, isn't that contra productive for their well-being. Read on, please?

all right, we feed the poor. We feed the women. They feel better with food in their bellies, thus making their menses return and making them fertile again. Another child. Another mouth to feed.

Isn't this perpetuating an endless cycle?

Shouldn't we be teaching them about birth control and planning and then give them the tools to feed their families?

Sounds like a different version of what one of my relatives says...except his version is why feed street people if they are not Christians since they are just going to h**l anyway!!!  

It is not our right to decide who gets to eat and who should starve.  And besides, while I do have a problem with women having multiple children when they cannot afford to keep one fed, I also think that if I was in the position where I had to choose between paying for food or birth control, food would probably be a priority!

And telling poor women that they cannot be sexually active is unrealistic when the men who ought to be supporting these kids are not!  Why not focus on getting men to take responsibility for the children they help create???

You almost got it right. They need to be fed and taught about birth control and planning and also given the tools to feed their families.

Hopefully once they got that food in their bellies they will also do the birth control, planning and using the tools.

I think that there are many programs out there that do both - feed people and teach them skills so they can find jobs and support themselves.

Birth control is a personal issue. You can't teach people to not have children.

But the bottom line is - how can we NOT feed the hungry? It seems the only humane thing to do.

birth control is sooo unhealthy.. it messes with my mood and makes my brain weird... its hard toexplain but i would never get back on it... i don't feel like myself when on it... i believe your right about teaching to it but its not the end all answers.
