Would we have as many dead in the UK as they had? would the houses and buildings still be there?

  1. This all depends on how much energy the cyclone has

  2. It is important to remember that not all of the dead in Myanmar are victims of the cyclone directly. In the UK you would find that the response time for relief would be much faster and so fewer people would die from horrible living conditions like disease or no food or water. As to the buildings... well, that is anyone's guess. It would all depend on the strength of the structures and the force behind the cyclone. I am sure that a brick building probably holds up better than a stick hut though. I wish all the best for those poor people...

  3. Can't predict.

Who would have thought Katrina will happen in USA? You saw the devastation there. People of New Orleans were homeless and many were displaced.

It is no different from Burma's. Anything is possible anywhere.

Can you ask same q. along the lines of what happened in China? Of course if there is a 8.9 Richter in any part of the world - which is more than very highly likely - such as in California - the misery to humans is thousandfold.

Quake due to the San Andreas' fault in CA is predicted to be so huge that it may separate and drift CA into an island into Pacific ocean on its own. The scientists also say it is not a matter of "if" - but it is a matter of "when". I hope I won't live to see it. Many Nuclear plants are there too.

The continents have drifted over millions of years due to earthquake of this gigantic proportions.

Hurricane is just another like the 'quake in China. I feel sorry for the people of China and Burma.

  4. Depends on lots of things.  The worst such in US history was Katrina hitting the US Gulf coast a couple of years ago.  The number of casualties was somewhere around 100, as opposed to the 100,000 or so that died in Burma.

  5. we don't hve cyclones, we have hurricanes. However, because of the infrastructure in place for emergencies, or losses would be astrnomically less. Myanmar killed their own by not allowing world aid to mobilize.
