  1. we see a slice of a 4D universe?  as far as my education goes, there is not proof that a 4th dimension does exist, only theories and mathematical nonsense

It's debatable.  As for space-time, 4 dimensions are adequate to describe most of what we see.  The string theorists posit many more dimensions but have yet to make any predictions that are widely recognized as having practical value.  In addition, I've read philosophic arguments that space and time should be symmetrical, so there should be 2 more time dimensions that we don't interact with for a total of 6.
