I have heard that you can do your papers in some countries and not in others.....I just cant find out if you can do them in Uruguay. That is where my husband came from and he hasn't seen his family in 7 years....he is here legally already we are just doing an adjustment of status so please no ignorant people telling him to "get out of our country" etc.

  1. It all depends on what his legal status is right now (does he have a student visa, work visa, or is a temporary resident or a permanent resident)

If you are a citizen and he entered the US legally and has not had a lapse in time where he is not in legal status, then he can arrange all of his USCIS paperwork through the US embassy in Uruguay.

Please be very careful though, because if there has been a lapse in time when he has been out of status, if he leaves the US and then tries to reenter, he could be hit with the 10 year punishment rule. Also you did not mention if you were moving with him.

If you do not it might raise red flags and USCIS might think it is a fraudulent marriage.

It sounds like your case is a bit complicated and before he makes the move you should contact an Immigration board certified attorney in your area

  2. It depends on whether the colleges/universities in Uruguay offer the same courses as the ones your husband are taking in the US. If there are the same courses available at a university in Uruguay, then he can transfer to that university and sit the papers there.
