If we want the resources of another country

Lets say oil.

Isn't it our governments job to get it, even by force whether it's right or wrong, isn't that what we pay taxes for?

(This isn't about ethics, so save it.)

  1. So, if you contend that it's our government's 'job' to steal other countries resources 'by force whether it's right or wrong', then I assume you would agree that it's the Chinese government's 'job' to steal the U.S.A.'s resources 'by force, whether it's right or wrong'.

Or it's India's government's 'job' to steal the U.S.A.'s resources 'by force whether it's right or wrong'.

How can this NOT be about ethics? Your very question is about ethics!

Bush's #1 non-military 'benchmark' insists that the new Iraqi Parliament surrender two-thirds of its OIL fields to foreign OIL corporations, which means that companies like Exxon-Mobil has a virtual right to STEAL most of Iraq's most valuable economic resource. What, in any sense, makes that 'right'??

The United States of America has strong-armed its way around the world over these past sixty years, claiming to be doing what's "in the country's best interests". What's good for the goose is good for the gander....and if you watched the Olympics Opening ceremonies last night, you saw an exhibition of raw power and sheer extravagance. What you watched on TV was a prelude of how China will -sooner rather than later - become the world's new superpower. And, just as is the case with every school yard bully, the United States will become China's very first target. As our economic, social, political and military strength continues to degrade, China will simply send its million-man army over here to take whatever it wants (oil, water, land, banks, real estate, coal, even our women if there's a strong demand for western women on the international s*x-slave market). And China will 'get it, even by force whether it's right or wrong'.

I wonder if you'll have the same attitude then?   -RKO-  08/09/08

  2. Is it not about ethics, or are you just unethical?

I don't think anything would have justified the 650,000 to 1 million dead Iraqis that our resource war caused. Further, it's not "our" oil. It's Exxon's oil and Chevron's oil.

I pay taxes for fire fighters, police, highways, the FDA (which needs to start doing its job), FEMA (which needs to start doing its job), and a whole host of other agencies.

One plea of "save it" doesn't divorce your question of the gross ethics it implies. Gross.

Raven Claw: How classy you are. A fine American. Also, if it's "our" resources, why am I not getting a little barrel of oil delivered to my doorstep? Seems like kind of a rip-off.

  3. Nope, because as Americans we acknowledge that all men are endowed by their creator with certain rights among them being property.  If we want the resources held by someone else we must trade for them giving value for value.

By the same reasoning the leftist have no right to come into my fields and harvest the crops I planted and tilled with my own hands, or any other such fruits of my honest toil.  Regardless of how many worthless FEMA trailors they want to buy and let rot.  Or so they can handout the loot to lazy deadbeats in some vote buying scheme.

  4. wat do u think the government is doing? its not as easy as just walking in with guns blazing and liberating some oil. its complicated and our government is working within the complications to achieve the goals.

  5. Imagine if China thought the same but then I suppose its not ethical if another country does it.

  6. You ask a question about ethics then claim it isnt about ethics.  Hmmmm

Do you think that the force you are speaking of is a magic force, or do you realize that it is Americans who die for this "oil".  Do you realize that the American economy is dependent upon other countries doing well and that if we simply invade ever country we want something from, we will soon destroy the entire economy of the US.  And most importantly, since this is not a ethical question, How much has the invasion of Iraq cost the USA so far.  We could have purchased alot of oil for the amount of money we spent in Iraq and handed it out to Americans, including the 4000 dead soldiers from our invasion.
