  1. Despite being very poor, it was the best in the business for a long time. This gave Microsoft a monopoly hold, which they use to stop vendors selling computers which don't have Windows installed (because they take away a huge discount if the vendor does).

  2. windows vista is a huge improvement over previous windows versions though in terms of technology.........

  3. To expand on KrazyKat's valid thesis:

    Inertia-

Most software developed is built to run on windows.  This is because early on Apple was very strict on what the developers could do with the OS and hardware, and MS was a bit looser. Hence more developers built for MS.  This is one inertial factor - more software available, more features...

MS Office suite - A significant portion of daily work every day is done on this office suite.  Winning this market is a huge factor why MS dominates.  They write it for two OS's, Windows and Apple.  Apple versions are a direct result of anti-trust issues.  As long as they support apple they deflect the competitive argument that they have undue influence over all software with these two key elements.

Third, the early intel-windows collaboration cemented them as a technical axis for computers to revolve around.  This drove their costs down and made their systems cheaper to use.  This has been alleviated somewhat by Linux' ability to run on Intel chips. So cheaper boxes are now being made using open source OS, but the software choices are still more limited than MS has.

THere are whole books written on this, so feel free to do a bit of research on the competitive factors in the industry, and how it changes constantly ( cloud computing, web 2.0, google apps, etc.)

Regarding their competitive practices...h**l, they are American Businessmen...ready to s***w anyone for a profit.

  4. Because as others said, Microsoft has a huge monopoly over the computer industry. Actually I think they may have gotten in trouble for it once or twice. Monopolies technically aren't allowed in business.

You can always download an open source OS like Linux later on. I hear it's better.

  5. User friendly.. That's about all I can think of :s

  6. windows has to be about the easiest of all operating systems to use

also microsoft was brilliant in the way they cornered the market

yes they have made some HORRIBLE operating systems such as ME and vista

  7. i believe that microsoft's windows are the best operating system's in the whole world. i mean u just got used to it ..i cant see myself using MAC or linux or any c**p

  8. Dude windows ain't that crappy, Maybe u are using vista and that's why u think is crappy. Well i am using it now and find it easy and fun. All u need to do is to update the Os and it will fine. This same applies to xp when it first launch.

Windows as the name suggest that we  open the files in windows. It makes it  more user friendly . Whereas for MS DOS  u need to type a from ur keyboard in order to find a file. So basically windows kick ***.

Well about apple, Apple is an expensive Os program and mainly use for advertising and creative people.

So that's why Windows is popular. Furthermore many program are writtern for Windows.

  9. Who told you that Windows is crappy? Whoever it was is an Idiot. It's better than Mac, Linux and Solaris put together! Windows XP Is the best operating system on the market. It was a huge improvement over 2000 and ME. You shouldn't buy Vista until Service Pack 2 is out.

  10. Microsoft's aggressive marketing policies and inertia, not to mention being required to use it for work.
