  1. Look at some examples,

    if x=2 and y=2, x*x+y*y = 8

    if x=3 and y=1, x*x+y*y = 10

    if x=4 and y=0 x*x+y*y = 16

    I guess there is not a single answer.


  2. it depends.

    if x and y need to be different and natural numbers, then the answer is 10 (i think).
