headach or sore throat? My sister does and last yr she missed several days, especially when the 6 or 10 yr old needs to go to the dr. My mom is capable of taking both kids to the store to get the six yr old Motrin but, my sister took off work to get the Motrin and go home. Is that normal? I'm worried she is going to lose her job. Sorry, I'm not a mom so I don't understand.

Please no smart remarks. I know it's none of my business, but I'm curious.

  1. For me, it depended on the situation.  If the illness was something small, I let the family take care of it.  If my daughter was very sick and wanted me, then I would leave work.  If you are really concerned for your sister's job, talk to your mom and then maybe your mom can talk to your sister.

  2. Nobody...not even a Granny can do a Moms job as well as a Mom..when kids are sick they just want their Mother. End of story.

  3. I would take off and have they are my children and my responsibility and even though my mom is capable of taking care of them i feel like i should do because i don't want to put the burden on anyone else.

  4. well sometimes the kids may need their mommy when they are sick.  But if they are around your mom enough..they should be comfortable enough to use her as comfort when they don't feel well.  I think your sister needs to allow your mom to comfort the children when they have a little headache or sore throat...especially if her job is at risk.

But also...it really isn't your place to say anything, so I would just leave it alone

  5. well matybe she thinks its 2 uch for ur mom so mayb if ur not busy u could help out a little so she doesnt have 2 lose heer job

  6. i do to a degree.   usually my hubby is at home with him during the day when he is not at preschool or camp.  so if he is sick i don't have to stay home with him or leave work early.  BUT if my son has a doctors appointment then i will leave work to take him.  I just want to be there for that so i can get the information.  you know??  thankfully my job is very understanding about that so i don't have to worry if i am going to lose my job.

  7. My child normally goes to daycare , however if she is a little bit sick I take her to dr next morning, get her meds and drop off at grammas. Then I go back to work. This usually takes me 3 hrs tops.

But if she is very sick, I do call in , take her to dr. and take care of her myself.

  8. Yeah. I agree that your mom is certainally capable of handling it. But maybe your sister feels guilty about not being with her kids when they're sick, or she feels guilty about burdening your mom with them at that time. When your kids are sick, they seem so vulnerable that, as a parent, you feel the need to be there to protect and comfort them personally, even if it's only a cold or a sore throat. It's nice of you to try to understand this, and not just be judgemental, the way some non-parents are. And it's great that she is so in love with her kids that she feels this way.

  9. Your sister has strong maternal instincts to protect and nurture her children when they are sick.  Most women would do the same if they could get the time off work.
