  1. You are considered a Hispanic if your parents come from a Spanish speaking country, but this type of distinction tends to fade away as you integrate into your place of adoption. The Haitians are never regarded as Hispanic, being perhaps the most African of all Caribbeans and French/Creole speaking. (They are present in vast numbers on the island where I live and one can pick them out physically from the rest.) Most of the Hispanics in the Caribbean area come from the mainland -- Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras, Belize, etc. (all countries with Caribbean coasts) and not from Caribbean islands. The only islands which can claim to be Hispanic are such islands as Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic (half an island), the Bay Islands and San Andres.

  2. You're considered Hispanic is you're from a Spanish speaking country such as Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, which are the only islands that are considered Hispanic.

  3. I shouldn't think so considering the carribean is in the North American continent

  4. You're considered Hispanic if you have a Latin or Spanish ancestry regardless of location. Usually if you look at the countries that are in the Latin Union you can pretty much get an idea of which countries have a majority or large segment of Hispanic or Latino background persons.

  5. Good question..Usually the Spanish speaking countries in the Caribbean identify with being Hispanic. This would included Dominican Republic, Cuba, Panama. The other countries that speak English, French, Hindi identify with being West Indian or Caribbean. The exception are countries like Guyana and Suriname which are located in South America but identify themselves as being West Indian due to a close cultural relationship with the West Indies and shared language (English)

    good luck
