  1. Hmmm. Well for one thing even if you sweat you won't get cold from that. But you will be too warm and will remove layers and will get cold. I think the best way to judge it is to find out what the best amount of insulation is for the day from trial and error and stick to that. If it's cold I'll usually wear something wind proof with very little insulation that I'd be cold in if I was just walking.

  2. You should always dress in layers.

You will feel cold when you are facing the wind and hot when the wind is at your back.

You can adjust your clothing during the run.

If you run out with the wind at your back you are going to sweat, and then if you face the wind you are going to freeze.

It is not always possible but in very cold weather I try to run out into the wind and then run in with the wind at my back.

  3. Runners world has this great section called, "What to Wear." You put in the temp, wind, and if it's sunny and it will give you recommendations based on the weather.

  4. you should definatly wear layers.  when you first start out, your body is cold.  as you start to run, you start to warm up (hence the term "warm-ups".)  you should start off with a sweatshirt , a longsleeve shirt, a underarmor (or something like it), lastly, if you want to go all out you could wear a tee shirt.  when your done with a layer, simply pull it off to the side of the road, just be sure to pick it up later.

    Hope this helped
