My parents said i might go to LA for a week next summer. I want to go audition but if I do make an audition will I have to go back or do they pay me to go back? Has anyone had any experience like they went to an audition in LA?

  1. Schwabs Drugstore was demolished over a decade ago- and even then Lana Turner's story of being discovered there in a tight fitting sweater was cooked up by a clever publicist!

Get real nothing happens by accident in the entertainment business. It is a business and very corporate.

  2. no i havent! But i wouldnt get your hopes up too much! I've lived in LA for about 2 years now.. nothing good has come about it!

  3. A week in LA is not going to be helpful. And yes, even if you WERE able to get an audition for something (the only things you'd conceivably be able to get would be unpaid work in student films or indie shorts, everything requires an agent and being union), you would have to be available to go back  for callbacks and, if cast, shoots. THe only people who are paid to attend auditions, test shoots and real shoots on location (which technically for you, it would be since you don't live in LA) are stars.

However, if you're going next summer there ARE a couple things you can do. First off, you need to make sure your resume is in order. Get into more classes and do more shows, shorts, ANYTHING. Also, get professional headshots.

Before leaving for LA, do a mailing to agencies and say in your cover letter that you are in transition to moving to LA and are there from the dates of x-x and would love to set up an interview while you're there. If anyone's interested, they'contact you for an interview.

I don't know how old you are, but I would ONLY do this if a. you actually COULD move to LA if needed within about 3 months if signed with an agency and b. you have enough credits on your resume to not make spending hundreds of dollars doing a mass mailing  a complete waste of time and money. Agents in LA don't normally consider new talent unless they're union anyway.

So, if you're not at this stage yet, I would recommend looking at your trip as more of an educational opportunity. Scout out schools and neighborhoods. Try auditing a couple classes while you're there and talk with students. Attend shows and showcases. Go to the drama bookstore. There are tons of things you can do that will be helpful to you as an aspiring actor that doesn't involve actually auditioning for a tv show or film.

There are books out there about making the move to LA. Check them out before you go.
