Let's say you're a student in a dorm, and find it hard to connect to people, even though you try, you sort of have nothing to talk about with your roomies.

Do you leave it, or try harder?

Apparently trying too hard gives negative effects?

Does anyone have experiences of the sort?

  1. I am Hungarian and live in Scotland. I am 16 years old and go to high school. I find it really hard to make friends too. I am not trying hard enough, because I think I dont even want friends with drugs and alcohol, but I think you should keep trying. Of course, it is easier if you speak the language. Good luck, that is all I can say.

  2. Idk, but for me...don't speak if it's unnecessary, cuz you gonna look uncool and ridiculed yourselves...

Don't be too cautious, I know...but people know our body language if we want to kissin their a**

  3. man spica, u have so many of these hypothetical questions Lol.

I would just leave it, cuz I'm the kind of guy that doesn't bend over backwards for anyone in a social setting. but that's just me.. I have very rarely ever connected with the people around me in any sort of way, we were just never on the same wavelength.

I think it might be best to do what u did(try to connect with the people there), and then if you're still not hitting it off, then just leave it be. imo hope this helps u ^_^

  4. as you said don't try so hard if was meant for you to connect it will happen, where i work we had a group of people come in from poland once and none of us knew how to communicate with them but after so much time we all finally had friends and never noticed the language difference.

  5. Im gonna say be slightly outgoing, but dont go overboard because if you leave your comfort zone it will definitely show!

  6. well... i sit next to a new chinese boy in class and most of the time we dont talk, but, when he does talk i nod my head and smile and look like im enjoying his company. it works.

    peace

  7. Well,

I have been in the USA for five years and I am generaly the only french and Italian speaking guy in any room I get into. I speak english correctly but do not connect to noone, event the local blacks. It's hard at the beginning but join a club, a sport setting, volunteer and you will make some decent friends along the way. Stay away from everybody will not help you because you are foreign and the locals have their ways and are used to each other. It is a little sad, but you have to bend down a little bit, but you don't have to humiliate yourself either.

  8. Tell you one thing Spica, I don;'t care what language you speak or even if you were deaf, I wouldn't mind talking to Spica. Worse can happen is that you fall asleep or ignore me.

Then at that point, I will try again the next day.
