  1. By pretending it never happened.

I minimize my own embarrassment by laughing at myself before anyone else can.  I think people watching someone having an embarrassing moment often think "What a dummy!", as though people are just oblivious and let things happen to them like that.  If you can laugh at yourself first, you take away the advantage of strangers adding insult to injury.  Do you know what I mean?  That's how I think of it anyway.

Like tripping over the curb while crossing a very busy road and knocking over a man on a bike carrying a giant ladder and a bag of painting tools that upended and scattered all over the pavement, meaning I had both fallen over AND created havock at the same time, I had to stay at the scene to help  pick up his painting brushes etc and ladder, you just pick yourself up and try to convince yourself that they'll all forget about it within seconds (which is mostly true).

  4. It depends on what you did and whether people could see it or hear it or experience it in some other way.
