I'm 38 weeks pregnant and had my doctor's appt. today and they checked me and i'm not dilating yet or anything, so my question is if you're not dilating at all does that mean she will be born late or i could go into labor at anytime even tho i'm not dilating. I'm just curious if that happens or if you have to be dilating first to go into labor.

  1. everyone is different! with my first, i walked around 2 - 3 centimeters dilated for at least a week before i went into labor but then was stuck at 5-6 during. with my second i did not dilate at all but went into labor on my due date! just stay stress free and enjoy your rest now! good luck

  2. you could go into labor anytime because you are far enough along. but, if you want to start labor, try eating a tsp full of caster oil. its really gross, but you have to keep it down, and then it will probably start the contractions a couple hours later.

  3. You are only 38 weeks. You still have 2 more weeks. Anything can happen between now and then. You have to start having real contractions to dialte. Contractions are what help you dialate. And sometimes you do not even feel those contractions. I know from my own experience.

  4. you could go into labor at any time.  I had gone to the doctor a few weeks before the due date and the doctor had told me I was 1 cm dilated and I was all excited that it would be happening soon but I was like for like 3 or 4 weeks before he actually decided to come. I really had no idea he was coming at all and didn't expect to go into labor that morning. Actually when I woke up I just felt funny in my stomach and felt this weird pressure (didn't hurt or anything) and it would come and go.  I had a doctor's appt that day so I just decided to wait a few hours and have the doctor check it out and then I just started leaking stuff (a little at a time though so I didn't think my water broke) but when I went to the doctor she said I was 3 to 4 cm and I needed to go to the doctor.  I'ts scary but really exciting and really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be but I got an epidural which I would really suggest.
