If you're over 18, what steps of getting your California license do you get to skip?

I've heard many different stories about this, and I was wondering whether I should just wait to get my license later.

I heard that if you're 17 and a half, you get to skip the 6 month waiting period.

Is this true?

  1. Just drivers ed and training.  Only if you are 18 (not 17 1/2) you can go down to the DMV take the written test, then take the driving test.  If you pass, yo an immediately get your license.  If you are 17 1/2, you just don't have to wait for a year to drive people.  You wait a half a year, or whenever you turn 18. If you are under 18, no matter what age you are still required to go through drivers ed (in a classroom) and drivers training (in the car) before you get your license.  Best bet is to just wait til you're 18...
