Question:

If you're tuned down a half step, does a capo on 1 make it standard?

I hate having to tune down to half step and tune back up all the time, so does putting the capo on fret 1 or 2 make it back to standard tuning? And if so, let's say the guitar is tuned a half step down, and you're playing a song that requires capo on 4, you would put the capo on fret 5 instead, right? That is, if my hopes are true and it is just as easy as tuning it down a half step and putting the capo on 1. I hope I didn't confuse anyone with this. Thanks everyone!!

  1. Yeah that is right, just remember half a step is one fret and a full step is two frets, so if you go down half a step from standard tuning put the capo on the first fret to go back to standard.

  2. I have my acoustic set to that 1/2 step down tuning. It is way easy just to pop that capo on and have standard tuning like you think it is.
