If you're walking out of a restaurant without paying does that mean that the servers and the management isn't doing a good job checking on their patrons as often as they should?

The other night I was at Denny's at 1am and there was hardly anybody there and the server didn't even check on us after she gave us our food, we couldn't find our server when we wanted a refill so me and my friends were able to walk out of the restaurant without paying and we just drove off like nothing has happened.

The service at Denny's is so awful and nonexistant that I just feel that it would be easy to walk out without paying.

Personally I would rather see the servers get in trouble for their poor service than I would with somebody getting arrested for not paying for their meal cause I blame the servers for letting the patrons getting away with not paying for their meals cause they weren't there for them when they've needed the servers.

  1. yea  the  server's  job to keep up  with the client if i got in trouble for walking out  without paying I'd say i left the  money on the table and tell the  police and the manager what type of crappy  service i had  while i was there  and that  someone else proable picked up the money, AND THE TIP ,

  2. Bad service means no tip and if it's very bad you need to complain to the manager.  But stealing your meal is unacceptable.  By the way, they may very well have security cameras which caught you.

  3. You should have left cash, or a phone number... Leaving without paying is stealing.

No matter how rude someone is, stealing doesn't make you even- it just makes you a theif!

  4. when this happens that means management needs to tighten up on their security and the staff they hire to serve the general public.  i have been in that position where the service is poor and the waiters/waitresses weren't attentive nor accommodating.  i believe in tipping but will not do so if the service is poor.  however, i will still pay the bill no matter what.  i mean that is just the right thing to do when you purchase/order something.  you gotta pay, period!!!!  if you got away with it, then oh well what can you do.  i wouldn't go back the next day to pay them.  that would cause a lot of chaos with you and management, and law enforcement.  next time i would just leave the money on the able but w/o a tip.  again, management needs to tighten up if they don't want bad business....after all it's their fault for not following up on your table.

  5. Everyone blames the server.  If you spent one day as a server, you wouldn't.  You have no idea the c**p servers put up with from people like you.  You're just trying to make yourself feel better about what you did.  If your service isn't good, you have two options:  you can either not go back or you can talk to the manager.  Chances are if you took the time to speak with the manager and express your concerns, he would comp your meal and stealing wouldn't be necessary!!!!

  6. if the service was bad at the local grocery store would you walk out without  paying for your bread and milk.

  7. I agree that the service at Denny's can be horrifically bad, but what you did was stealing. If I have bad service I feel you still need to pay for your meal. What I do to show my displeasure is I leave a penny for the tip. That way they know I didn't forget the tip,I just thought the service blows chunks. Remeber, two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do...

  8. Most restaurants make the waitress pay your bill; maybe you should of found the manager or another server. Someone had to of been there.

  9. While it may have felt like you were getting the servers in trouble for their poor service, you were opening up yourselves to getting arrested.  If the service at that Denny's is that bad, don't go back (vote with your feet).

  10. You missed the point dude.  Walking out of a restaurant without paying is STEALING.  Regardless, if you need to go grab another waiter and tell them, it's easier to do that then to walk out of the restaurant.  And what about the servers who DO pay attention to their tables?  They deserve jerks like you at their tables?  I've had a few walk outs in the 3 years I've been a waitress and I have ALWAYS given my tables attention.  I don't deserve cheapskates and even the worst waiter doesn't deserve a walkout, they deserve a talk with a manager.  I hope one day you get blamed at your job for someone not paying for something because you weren't attentive enough.  Or better yet, I hope you get arrested.  Most of the time, people who walk out know they don't want to pay in the first place.  Yall knew yall weren't gonna pay when you walked in the door, so the story about service is a bunch of malarky.  Go to a real store and walk out with merchandise and see how that story flies with the police.

  11. I personally would never walk out without paying even if I do get bad service, if I do get bad service I would complain to the management and tell them about what happened and suggest your thoughts as to what you would like to see improvements on and maybe it'll happen.

I have thought about walking out without paying but I didn't have the heart to do so.

  12. Yes understandable, but stealing is quite a sin

  13. You should feel bad for stealing.  If you have a problem with service you should  speak with the manager.  Some restaurants actually make the server pick up your tab.  If she's working at Denny's she probably can't afford it and you don't know her situation...what if she has children to feed?

  14. I think that means you just committed a crime. They should be fired, all of them, including the management.Did you eat your meal?

  15. I wish I could do that...but it's considered stealing.
