  1. I took one a LONG time ago . I went to the Carribean. I would go again to St. Thomas but NOT to the french speaking island. They charged at least DOUBLE the cost for a plain hamburger there as they have to import the meat then. I also don't know french and they don't speak any english there.I liked St. Thomas though and would recommend it, beautiful scenery and very friendly atmosphere to be in . When I went it was duty (tax) free and things were cheap at that location then. I went to five islands , I dont recall the others now. It was some time ago.

  2. I think all cruises are wonderful..  I prefer the Caribbean.  Where is the best place to go?  It doesn't matter.   Choose a cruise with a couple different ports of call.  The great thing about a cruise is that you get to experience different islands and see what it is that you like and dont like.   Try going on to Cruisecritic.com and checking it out.   Tons of cruisers give their opinions on islands/ports of call and different cruise lines.  Its a great site!!  The Bahamas have beautiful water and some of the cruiselines have beautiful private islands in the Bahamas that are just wonderful.  Mexico is fun to experience.  We love Cozumel.  Grand Cayman is very pretty with one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (Seven Mile Island) - look it up.  Do some research on a site such as travelocity.com and get an idea of the prices and check out the ports.  We personally love Royal Caribbean (been on them 4 times) and we feel that they have something for everyone in regards to entertainment etc.  Plus, they got the newest and biggest ships out there!!!  Its amazing what you can do on a ship! You'll never get bored!!! Have fun!

  3. I've been on a few cruises.  My favorite was to Bermuda sailing out of Norfolk, VA.  It was amazing.  My least favorite is definately the Bahamas.  You should go once, just to say you've been, but I will not go back by any means.

  4. Honestly my favorite island is Labadee.  It's a small private island right off of Haiti and it is privately owned by Royal Caribbean so the only people on the island is everyone that is on your ship.  There is a small flea market area where people from Haiti can sell merchandise but they are not allowed to leave that area and bother you while you are on the island.

The island itself is gorgeous and so peaceful and relaxing, and the ship offerers several excursions for you if you do not want to spend the entire time at the beach.   Some of the excursions are Jet Skiing, riding around their super fast motor boat, and a children's waterpark. Plus the cooking staff cooks a bbq for lunch for everyone who decides to go onto the island.

Since it is owned by Royal Caribbean you have to go on a Royal Caribbean ship to get there (and it has to be one of the destinations).

The ship I would recommend would either be the Freedom of the Seas or the Explorer of the Seas.  They have a lot on board including a rock climbing wall, a shopping area (more than most ships), a movie theatre, a dance club, a teen dance club, an arcade, a casino, several bars, a children's area, a children's swimming area, and an ice skating rink.

  5. My favorite all time cruise was to Alaska on a cruise/tour. That is when you spend a few days on land either before or after you cruise. Because Alaska is so big, then this type of cruise is highly recommended. No matter where you choose to cruise, I promise you will have fun. I guess the only downside of cruising, is often when you get to a port, you would love to stay there longer then 1 day. But that does give you a taste of that new place so you can go back at another time.

  6. You might want to check out this collection of Cruise Journals, which have pictures and stories from  people's trips:

Personally, my favorite cruise was a 4-day coastal cruise from Vancouver to Seattle to Los Angeles on Holland America Line.  It's great if you want a high-end, pampering experience but can't be away for too long.  You can read my Cruise Journal about it here:

But really my recommendations of what's good for me might not be right for you -- cruises aren't all the same, and what people like are definitely not all the same.

You might want to check out this guide to "Choosing Your Cruise" which explains which cruise lines and destinations are good depending on what you care about:

  7. I have been on about 20 cruises with 4 different cruise lines.  And I have been all over the Caribbean, Eastern Western and the two  southern routes.  I have been to Alaska, New England and Canada, the Baltic, and the Eastern and Western Mediterranean.  I plan to do South America, Hawaii and Australia next. SO I will soon pretty much cover the world with cruises.

My first cruise was a 4 day, just to see if I liked it.  since then I have been on 7, 9, 12 and a 14 day cruises and two of those coming up are 15 days.  So I really enjoy cruising and highly recommend them as great vacations.

If you have never been on a cruise, here's what I recommend.  Look at the cruise line web sites and select an itinerary that you may find interesting, OR I recommend a Western Caribbean cruise because it offers opportunity for great beach time, the opportunity to tour Mayan ruins if you like that type activity, and you will visit at least three islands, including Cozumel, Jamaica and Grand Cayman.  Carnival, Norwegian, Celebrity, Princess and Royal Caribbean are all good cruise lines that do the western Caribbean itinerary.  BUT, I recommend a Royal Caribbean cruise because that cruise line alway has the most and best activities on its ships.

The Royal Caribbean ships that I recommend are the Freedom of the Seas and/or the Liberty of the Seas.  Both do the Western, as well as Eastern Caribbean itineraries.  You should look at the specials or deal offered by RC on these ships and book your cruise early, meaning 9 to 12 months or more before the date that you want to cruise.  So, for example, you should be able to find some good deals on these ships for November/December this year, which is good because its after the hurricane season and it still plenty warm enough in the Caribbean to enjoy the beaches and water.  We just did a cruise this past Dec and the water was fine.

  8. Ms; I have been on 22 cruises all to the same place, with 3 more set for this year. ALASKA. Love the Natural Beauty, Wildlife, People you meet from all over the world, People who live and talking to the people who just work there for the summer. It is not as TOURESTY as Hawaii. Hawaii is nice for some but, the best island in their chain is for service people only. Bermuda is a Beautiful place but, best deal there is staying at one of their great hotels like Elbow Beach.

Hope this helps in your quest.

  9. Been on over 30 cruises-all from Southampton.

All were great but most memorable was the trip up the Amazon .

Nearer home it's hard to beat the Med-for the variety of ports, food, wine & culture.

Sailing to the Caribbean in November.

First pick your ship then the itinery.

  10. Just got back from 7 day western caribbean on Royal Caribbeans' Freedom of the Seas and I highly recommend this line, ship and itinerary. We never did get to see/do everything on the ship, it's so big and there's just so much to do and see. Our itinerary was: Labadee Haiti, which is Royal Caribbean's private penninsula so no natives/riff raff wandering and hustling you, it was pure paradise, a beach day. Then on to Ocho Rios Jamaica where we played with the dolphins and climbed Dunns River Falls with a ship sponsored tour. Next was Georgetown Grand Cayman where we played with the sting rays and did some kick butt snorkeling, then lounged at a private beach resort on a private tour thru Native Way Watersports-I can't recommend this company highly enough. See my recent review of Native Way on tripadvisor.com. Last stop was Cozumel Mexico where we did some kayaking and snorkeling at Playa Uvas. If you want white sandy beaches skip Playa Uvas, because it's on the rocky and rough side like much of Mexico, but if you want some great snorkeling and water activities then check it out.

I loved our cruise and can't wait to cruise again!
