  1. The town of Lourdes has one of the biggest numbers of hotels in any city of France by land area.  The streets are lined with small,    dingy looking shops that all sell the same kind of souvenirs.  I remember being disappointed by the look of the town itself.  The pilgrimage area is a well tended park like area.

  2. There are two parts two Lourdes, the town and the Domain.

The town around the Domain is full of tacky souvenir shops, cafes and hotels, it has France's highest number second only to Paris. Further away is the new town with shops and cafes. For details of the town http://www.lourdes-infotourisme.com/uk/d...

The Domain is totally different and consists of the Grotto and a number of churches. There are various webcam and details on their site http://www.lourdes-france.org/index.php?...

It is well worth a visit.
