If you've grown"Nasturtium"{empress Of india}are they a classy looking border?or weedy looking in the garden?

The pic shows a gorgeous color red, w/nice leaves.

I sure hope it turns out thatta way.

  1. Plants will either form a low bush or trailing plant eight to twelve inches tall. Trailing plants may extend almost a yard. They make a great informal display as a ground cover or along fences. Trailing varieties look great in hanging baskets.

    The Empress of India particularly has a dwarf, bushy habit so it would looks great as a border.  This plant was introduced during the Victorian Era and was very popular.  Now you can't get more classy than that :)

      If you do decide to go with nasturtium know that frequent picking prolongs the flowering period, so cut flowers often. Flowering season can last into autumn, and the plants self-seed readily.

    Also nasturtiums are an attractive and nutritious addition to salads, and they make a beautiful garnish. Nasturtiums have 10 times the vitamin C of lettuce, so add a generous portion of leaves and flowers to your salad mixes. Grind the seeds in a pepper mill, and use as you would black pepper.
