  1. It depends where, but there usually is an adoption fee. But it usually isn't much.

  2. It can vary greatly. Purebreds will generally be more, but not always. We got our purebred AB male from a smaller village shelter and he was only $45- neutered, shots, the works! Our female AB (also purebred) came from a larger city rescue and she was $200, spayed, shots and new collar. Way less than a breeder and we saved two dogs and gave them great homes. I have seen some breed specific rescues that charge $300-$500 for dogs. All the costs of adoption go back into running the rescue and allow them to save other dogs. Not such a bad thing, as this is a sure way to weed out folks who are not serious about the dogs.

  3. We got our dog this year from the Hinsdale Humane Society in Illinois.  We paid $100.  The dog was already spade and up to date on shots.  Plus they put a micro chip in her and gave us a lot of info about training, crating, etc.  She's 3 years old.

  4. yes, it does cost money, this money goes towards the care for the animals which come to the shelter.

It is a simple adoption fee which is usually around 180 dollars (AUS) for puppies. This is a very reasonable price as pet shops charge five times that (minimum) which for the owner's own profit.

If you'd love to find the exact price of the animals, google your local shelter and find costs. You can even look in your phone book, so you can call them.

What ever the price from a shelter, the dog comes spayed/ neutered (desexed), vaccinated, vet checked, micro chipped and sometimes the dog may have had to have surgery. The dog also goes through a temperament evaluation to make sure the dog is suitable for adoption.

So when adopting a dog, you are almost giving a donation to the shelter at the same time while rescuing a animal in need.

    hope this help you.

  5. I bought my dog from the humane society.  he was about $165but that included shots, license, micro chips, and a package including dog food, toy, dishes, collar and leash... it was a deal!!!

  6. If you adopt a dog from a Purebred Rescue group the fee is generally between $200 and $350. They have paid for a vet check, shots, and sometimes had to pay for serious medical care so that the dog is ready to adopt. They have also worked with the dog to evaluate any training issues and sometimes started the training process.

  7. There is usually an adoption fee. Its lower in city shelters ($50-$200) and a bit higher in SPCAs and Rescues ($100-$400). However, shelter dogs come spayed/neutered and are up to date on their shots, so you are already saving a lot there.

Also consider that it is really expensive to maintain a dog. The initial cost of buying the dog is very little compared to the cost of maintaining the dog, e.g. vet bills, toys, food, training classes, training equipment, grooming equipment, etc.

One thing you can consider is to volunteer some of your time at your local SPCA or shelter. That way you get to spend time with some really nice dogs, without any extra cost to you.

  8. If you go to the pound or local animal shelter there would be a fee of a about 75-100 dollars. However if you go to a rescue group they charge more becaue they are not funded by the state.

  9. it depends on the place. the pound here charges roughly 100 dollars that includes spaying or neutering. its a pretty good deal considering most vets charge a min. of 150-250 for neuters and 250 to 300 for spays

  10. It depends. If you are going through a breed rescue, younger dogs cost more because they tend to be easier to adopt out. Older dogs tend to be cheaper because they are older and hence not as "adoptable". If you go to the pound, it depends on the pounds fee, but you can generally get the dog the same day. With breed rescues, you usually have to apply, be interviewed, have a house visit, then be approved for adopting, then make sure the dog meshes with you. This is because the breed rescues want to make sure the dog is a true match for you and your family. They want the dog to find its forever home.

Good luck which ever method you choose.

  11. Most of the time you have to pay a small fee. But it is usually under $100.

  12. It depends on the rescue group. My German Shepherd was $350 to get from a rescue. My black lab at a local shelter was $85.

  13. Most shelters charge for their animals. Last year my local shelter charged $75 for a cat.
