  1. I didn't answer the previous question, but something struck me when I was reading this. You called it your kitten, but you talked about your mother not wanting to clean up after him. Why weren't you taking care of him if he was your kitten? Maybe that was apart of the reason he went back. Anyway please don't get anymore kittens until you not your mother learns to take care of him.

  2. This isn't really a question. And I guess I didn't see you previous question. But there are litters that attract problem cats to the box. There are many tricks you can try besides showing them a litter box. If you have multiple cats you should have multiple litter boxes.

  3. you should of put the litterbox in a room with a door, and put your cat in that room CONSTANTLY.  my kitten learned to use the litterbox in 2 DAYS!  and she hasn't had an accident since.

    it's called proper training

  4. you could have cleaned up after him if you loved him so much

he could have been an outside cat

im so sorry its sad :[

  5. A few things about litter boxes, no one mentioned:

Cats are clean by nature, and will use a little box, with very little training.  There are a variety of reasons, that cats stop using a litter box, and in my opinion, it is up to the "owner" to figure out the reason, if they truly care about the cat.

    1. Rule of thumb, one cat box for each cat, some say one more box, than the # of cats.

    2. Cats should be spayed/neutered by 6 months old, unless you show or breed, but those people already know what to do.   Once they get close to breeding age, per say, they may start to mark their territory.

    3. Some cats prefer scented litter, some don't like it, the smell is too strong, their sense of smell is alot higher than a humans. Cats pretty much sit right on the litter when they pee, and some scented litters, burn their little bee-hinds.

    4. Some cats prefer a hooded box, some don't like them, its too confining to them, or they are too big, as in the cat is too big, and does not have enough room to move around in.

    5. Cats like their cat box in a quiet area, where there is not alot of commotion or foot traffic, as is, would you want to pee in the middle of the mall, or would you prefer a private quiet area.

    6. Cats do not like their cat box near their food and water. As in, would you want to eat your meal in your bathroom.

    7. Cats like a very clean box. It should be picked every day, you can go to the dollar store, and get one of those large spoons, that has the holes in it, like you would use for straining veggies, instead of buying a scooper at the pet store.  The litter should be at least half way, if not more, near the top, put in enough litter, so they can properly cover their pee and p**p.  Mix in a box or 2 of baking soda, this helps with the smell, and you can get this at the dollar store for 55 cents a box.

    8. Cats can stop using the box if they are stressed, if there is alot of stress/comotion/yelling in the household. If there is a change in the household, new person, new pet, new routine, etc. If you notice, cats like a routine, and will routinely "patrol" the house to see if everything is as it should be.

    9. Last but not least, and this one is prob the most important one. A male cat will stop using the box, and pee outside the box, or on a rug, or anywhere, if they are blocked, as in, they have crystals, they are about the size of a grain of sand, and a male cats p***s is very very small, and they get blocked and cannot pee. They associate the pain, with the cat box, thats why they pee outside the box.  It is critical they be taken to a vet, or they could die, the toxins build up in their system. Another sign they may be blocked, is they will just sit in the box, or they only pee about a dime size, it should be about the size of a quarter or larger.  A female cat may have a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection). As in, how would you feel, if you had to pee, and were unable to, or you felt like you had to pee all the time, and no one would take you to the doctor, and instead, just threw you outside.

When I say "you", it is a "general you", not directed at any specific person.

Since the kitten is a male, I suspect he most likely not neutered, and most likely is blocked.  So its prob a good thing, he was turned into a shelter, so he can recieve the proper medical treatment.

Showing him the litter box, is not going to make his use it, he already knows where it is. He is not using it, because of one of the above, or more, or he has a medical issue.

I show cats, all over the East Coast, they go into hotels they have never been in before. I put their cat box in the bathroom, in a bathroom they have never been in before, and the bathrooms are in all diff locations in the room, and all diff sizes.  I show them where the box is once. I set them right in it.  After a few minutes, when I unpack, and get settled in, they go use the box.

There are a zillion posts on this subject, and I just don't have time to ans every post, so I prob didn't even see the orig post, and I am sorry someone was mean to you, on our horse board, we call them "trolls" and we just ignor them.

Don't know how old you are, I suspect from the way this post was written, you are young, so please show this to your mother, and please feel free to email me if you have any questions. :-) :-) :-)

  6. That is so sad! I am sorry you had to give him up. I know how hard it is to give up a pet that you love.

  7. I'm sorry someone said you killed him...that was harsh wasn't it?  Some people say things in here they shouldn't, so try to forget about it and not let it bother you any more.  I'm sorry you had to give him up.
