  1. At a 45 deg angle then yell at the captain of the boat to slow down after he has slowed down

  2. Head on is the best way

  3. There is a way to steady yourself when this occurs.  its called a "low-brace"

with your paddle flat, just under the surface of the water, hold the boat stead.  any tendencey to roll is braced by the paddle.  you can push down or pull up on the paddle to steady yourself.

Try this without the traffic nearby.  Also look up in a Kayak magazine the term "low-brace"

you can use this a lot of ways.  the best ofwhich is to pick up a lot of water and spray your friends.
