Question:

If you are Poland, do you really fear a Russian missile attack?

The United States shot down a mini-van sized spy satellite traveling at 22,000 miles per hour, from a boat. Don't you think the missile defense system would have no problem hitting a big old cold war era Russian nuke.

  1. you would need to get it operational 1st, we failed to protect georgia even after we instigated thier strife with russia. What says we'd defend poland? They could take poland with conventional war and would be more than happy to do so.

  2. Of course, Poland would be scared. The fact is that the missile shield can only protect against one or a couple of incoming missiles. Now if Russia fired twenty missiles at the same time. Many of them will still get through.

The vast majority of the Poles are against the missile shield. They know that their lives will be unduly exposed to jeopardy as a result. It was their ambitious leader who agreed to have it.

Russia has just announced that Poland is now one of their nuclear targets. If I am a Pole and seeing what's happening in Georgia now, I'm sure that Russia isn't just kidding.

  3. I don't think so but I know that I want to annex my neighbors house who is Polish! I figure he should be used to the idea

  4. The missile shield is something you'll only hear about in "Future Weapons"; it isn't a feasible option and is more or less an imaginary invention meant to make people feel safe.

Consider this: the latest Russian nukes, such as the Topol-M and RS-24, are MIRVed, meaning they carry around 10 individual warheads. You can try to shoot down the missile, but you better hope the warheads haven't already been unleashed because there is no way you'll be able to knock them all out.

Now consider the fact that if Russia is going to launch a nuclear strike, they aren't going to use a single missile; Russia has thousands and thousands of nukes. You may get lucky and take one out, but try to destroy 200 nukes launched simultaneously.

I should mention the nukes are EMP and radiation resistant, or so the Russians claim. So there's no way to knock all of them out of the sky with a large EMP burst. The newer nukes can modify their trajectory and course in-flight. If you have no idea where the nuke is going it makes it that much harder to destroy it. If you take all of this into consideration you'll realize just how bogus a "missile shield" really is.

Also, any ideas of "first strikes" you may have, thinking you can take out Russia's nukes in their silos before they launch them, is all negated by the very existence of nuclear-armed submarines and mobile launcher vehicles. Russia can launch nukes from the sea, and you can never know where all of Russia's subs are.

  5. Well Poland should be scared, and the Czech republic. Russia has made more missles and nukes since the cold war ended and have threatened to attack the missle defense and in July of this year Russia said that if the plans go ahead and the defense system gets up and running, Russia warned that they could go to war over it

  6. It is intended to defend against missiles launched at Europe from Iran; maybe you should read up on a subject prior to 'shooting' off your questions!

And yes, maybe it is time to be concerned about missiles launched from Russia!

  7. Its not like any other country ever threatened and then invaded Poland, right?  And besides, what are the chances in the 21st Century that a super-power country is actually going to send tanks and soldiers into some pissant little country anyway?

  8. Tell that to Georgia.

By the way, the only reason that missile defense test worked is because they knew EXACTLY the trajectory of the satellite.  Try shooting a target that you didn't plot for over a year and not know exactly the time the missile was launched.

  9. You must be joking.

Russia is a beast, a monster. We fear Russian strength. But our force lies in numbers.

BTW: I'm from Romania so that the shield does not protect us.
