She was born in the US, but her parents moved here from Somalia. So, is she considered African American?

  2. yes. Somali is in Africa, so she is an American with African ancestry, so she is an African American.

  3. Yes, she is African-American. But because her parents are from Somalia, she will have strong cultural connections that distinguish her from the average black American, who doesn't have those connections.  These connections come in the form of language, food, customs, religion (almost all Somalis are Muslim) and the Somali culture (very conservative by American standards).  

    This is why many Africans who come to live in the U.S. feel isolated, because although they are black, they come from a completely different culture than black Americans.
