If you are a Muslim, can you drink coffee?

I have heard that the Koran prohibits the intake of intoxicants, such as alcohol. As coffee is an intoxicant, if you are a Muslim, can you drink it?

because when you drink coffee you have a pure intention of drinking it-(you don't drink it to get drunk) also, you don't actually faint or get dizzy spells from drinking it, so it isn't really counted as an intoxicant if you think about it

The muslim friends I've had drank coffee.I think it's just anything that changes your ability to think considerably...like alcohol.
