  1. If you're in high school, start writing for your school paper. When selecting a college, pick one with a good journalism department. While in college, write for your college paper.  Take as many writing and journalism courses as you can.  Try to get a summer internship at a daily paper, even if it's unpaid.  The more bylines you get, the more you'll learn, and the closer you'll get to your goal.

  2. Get your ideas working

    .

When you see a story in the paper or on TV go to your key board and type up what you saw in your own words

    .

This will give you a taste of what to expect many different ways to report a situation

    .

Next get with a school that has courses in Journalism that you like

    .

Then while in school go to a local news paper and ask if they are in need of an apprentice Kind of doubt it but some of the old Hounds will remember their days and Might MIght give you a chance as a tag a long

    .

Then if and when you do get your diploma it is a nasty world in competition for the head line story so do be ready for the battle of sorts

    .

It only takes one or two good Lead Lines to get you a desk in the News room

    .
