If you are a named driver when you have an accident do you have to declare it on your own policy?

I passed my test a few months ago and was a named driver on my husbands insurance until I got my own car unfortunatly I wrote off my husbands car and claimed on his insurance policy before this could happen.

I am now going to buy a new car and get insurance in my name do I say I had an accident because It was not my insurance policy? Does my husband say he has on his new policy?Or do we both ?

You have to declare all accidents claims on an insurance application.  Your husband will have to declare a claim even though not the driver.  Insurance firms are in touch with each other and anything not declared can make your insurance invalid, and it against the law to be uninsured

the accident follows YOU not the policy it was claimed on.  since YOU had the accident you must inform the new company of it.

Not 100% sure but am sure you will have to both declare it you caused the accident so that goes against your name and you claimed on your husbands insurane so this would go against his name.This is how  think an insurance company would look at it hun good luck xxxx

You will need to declare it as the new insurance company will look at the Motor Insurers Database and find out anyway.

You say  "...I wrote off my husbands car..." Is that stating that the accident was your fault?  If so they'll also take that into account.

you are supposed to declare it, if you dont and they find out you can be liable for commiting fraud. and the sed insurance will be void. it's best to own up, i know it'll be costly but think if you do it again.

Yes you will have to fill in a  form ,and on that form there will be a section for you to put in your former claims .

you will both need to declare them on your policies in future
