I'm leaving for the Navy next year and my job is a QuarterMaster and I was wondering can you get a job as a Captain of a Cruise ship if you are a QuarterMaster in the Navy for 20 years or 10 years?

  1. Check out this employment web site from Royal Caribbean cruise line:

    http://www.royalcaribbean.com/ourCompany...

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity are partners, and also  Azamara Cruise line, so whatever you find on the RC site probably applies on the Celebrity and Azamara sites.

Then go to Carnival cruise line's web site:

    http://www.carnivalcruiselines.com/cms/f...

Carnival is the Parent company for Cunard, Princess, Carnival and Holland America cruise lines.  So you may find that what is on Carnival also applies to the others.

A few months ago there was a news story about the appointment of a new cruise ship captain and the person appointed had worked her way up through the ranks on tankers and cruise ships, holding a variety of positions.  Thus you could probably start somewhere in the crew ranks.

Here are some links for all of the major cruise lines; each has a link somewhere on the page leading to jobs/employment information:
