If you are a self taught guitarist why did you choose not to learn from a teacher?

To me a teacher is like a guide. Someone who is going to get me to the top of guitar mountain in the shortest possible time while keeping me motivated. I know many people choose to teach themselves and I am curious as to why . What are the benefits?

Some people do a lot better not having to listen to someone else, grasping things faster when they can teach it to themselves in their own way. But bottom line for many people: it's a lot cheaper.
